Through local politics, we can influence the daily lives of young people and encourage a life free of substances and based on honesty.

I am also familiar with the daily realities of wellbeing services. I work as a Service Manager in safety at a wellbeing services area. In addition, my studies have focused on the early stages of wellbeing services areas.

As a resident of Heka, I want to point out that the situation with Heka housing must be addressed.

The city must continue investing in Heka-owned rental apartments. This is crucial because housing benefits have been significantly cut, while rents have been raised excessively. As a result, low-wage earners are forced to become clients of social assistance, trapping them in a vicious cycle. It’s pointless to work if your livelihood must be supplemented by Kela.

It is incredibly rewarding to create moments of success, both in everyday life and beyond, as these experiences fuel future achievements.

My strengths lie in leadership, scheduling, and ensuring a smooth workflow. I can anticipate potential challenges and resolve them efficiently.

As a 35-year-old mother, I understand how difficult it can be to balance work and everyday life. There are days when that balance seems impossible, and everything feels overwhelming. However, I believe that this is precisely why we must support each other—within families, workplaces, and society as a whole. We need to ensure that everyone, especially parents and caregivers, has equal opportunities to combine work and family life.

I am articulate and ready to stand up for important issues. I firmly believe that every individual’s voice deserves to be heard.

Tuomas Järvinen, 43 v., Service Manager

I am a 43-year-old father from East Helsinki. I want to help build a better future for the young people of Helsinki. Helsinki residents must have equal opportunities to succeed in life, regardless of their background. Helsinki is home to all of us, and I want to help make it an even more just and enjoyable place to live and grow. During the current term, I have served as a deputy member of the Equality and Non-Discrimination Committee, and I have extensive experience in various public office roles.

I am a born-and-raised Helsinkian and a class teacher who wants to build a more just Helsinki. As an experienced team player, I believe we can do better. I believe that Helsinki can afford to provide textbooks for every student. I know that we don’t have to leave over 1,500 city rental apartments vacant. In one of the elections, I became an alternate councilor. Key themes for me are affordable housing, revitalizing urban culture, and implementing a responsible green transition. In areas where I am not an expert, I listen to others when making decisions.

Eevi Kirjasniemi, 43 v., Senior Lecturer in Handicrafts

I am a strong-rooted newcomer to Helsinki. Over the past two election terms, I have served as a deputy member of the Education and Training Committee, both in the subcommittee and now in the full committee. During the day, I help shape the future generation of skilled workers and witness the challenges present in today’s school days. I have been the editor-in-chief of the Asuminen ja yhteiskunta (Housing and Society) magazine for 12 years, working on current affairs and history books. I am married and a born-and-raised Helsinkian.

A decision-maker should not be a rubber stamp. From 2009 to 2017, as a member of the Culture and Library Committee, I toured presentations, engaged in feedback discussions, and made the most counterproposals, many of which were adopted.

I was the chair of the Workers’ Educational Association’s board from 2001 to 2008.

Helsinki must be open, inspiring, and the best European capital for its residents—a city where people can afford to live and where education is seen as the best investment.

Better digital services should be available through a one-stop-shop approach, utilizing data-driven solutions and artificial intelligence more effectively. We can improve learning and well-being, and children should have the right to travel for free on public transport during weekends. We must do more to attract skilled professionals, workers, students, and tourists. Diversity is what makes Helsinki the best place for its residents!

I want a Helsinki that thrives, grows, and attracts! We will build the Helsinki of the future with fresh perspectives, solid experience, and international expertise.

It’s important to me that everyone can enjoy the city in the best possible way. Everyone should have the opportunity to use public transportation without worrying about whether they can afford dinner in the evening. The prices of HSL tickets should be reduced, and special groups such as youth and seniors should be better considered. The city’s sports facilities should also be increased.

Helsinki is a growing, vibrant, and well-managed city of just the right size—one that offers its residents the best opportunities in Finland to pursue their dreams. Or simply just be.

I want to promote investments in children and youth, education, and well-being. Decision-making should utilize the best available data.

Helsinki should be a safe and pleasant city that values education and knowledge, where it’s good to grow, live, and pursue opportunities.

Eveliina Lahtinen, 36 v., , Business Development Manager

It’s a matter close to my heart to build a Helsinki where everyone can feel they belong to the community, receive the support they need, and find their place in society. I want to be involved in making decisions that improve the daily lives of Helsinki residents and promote Helsinki’s sustainable development.

By investing in well-being, education, and affordable housing, we can build a stronger and more humane Helsinki.

Together, we can make a difference!

Kim Lehto, 48 v., Kontulan-Mellunmäen Sosialidemokraatit ry, insinööri (AMK)

The Helsinki of the future is being built starting today! I move around Helsinki a lot due to work and leisure. I meet many people, including officials, entrepreneurs, and also you, who live in areas where renovations are needed. I also see the food line that passes through my neighborhood every week. As a father of three boys, family matters are close to my heart! Not only buildings, but Helsinki also needs maintenance, and I feel that I have not only the expertise but also the ability and desire to contribute!

Helsinki belongs to all

Having moved to Helsinki as an adult, I’ve learned to not take for granted the possibilities and diversity of this city, things that are not guaranteed everywhere. You truly can make your life just the way you want to here, and it has to be like that going forward too.

Heikki Lonka, 64 v., Itä-Helsingin Sosialidemokraatit ry, tekniikan tohtori

I’m an architect from Roihuvuori who has held leadership positions in the technology field in several cities. Etta Melander, 27 yrs., Nuorsosialidemokraatit – NUS ry, Communications Specialist

What is important to me is sustainable and accessible urban planning, as well as the services the city offers. Health centers, sports facilities, libraries, and non-commercial recreational spots must be accessible to every resident, regardless of their neighborhood.

The Helsinki of the future will be built to withstand the test of time, with space for parks and green areas, as well as for public transportation and people. Let’s make Helsinki a city for many, not just for a few.

The rise in housing costs is severely impacting ordinary people’s daily lives, and Helsinki must compensate for the weakened position of low-income individuals. Affordable rental housing needs to be further increased. Developing public transportation, especially rail projects, is key.

Janne Nikama, 51 yrs., Kuljetusalan Demarit ry, bus driver

In 2012, I was elected as the chair of SuPer, a position I held for 12 years. This role included participation in the supervisory boards of Keva and the Employment Fund. I continue to serve on the supervisory board of Turva.

Decision-making and influencing decisions in these areas are familiar to me. First, one needs a mandate—and that is what I am now seeking.

Aino Palm, 23 yrs., Eurooppademarit – Tähti ry, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

I am studying cultural studies at the University of Helsinki. I am running in the elections because I want more humane drug policies, better mental health services, and less social exclusion.

I was inspired to run through my volunteer work, where I realized the gaps in services in Helsinki. We need more preventive substance abuse and mental health services, needle exchange points, and rehabilitative housing units. Seeking help should be easier. Focusing on local communities and organizing low-threshold events can help prevent social exclusion.

Culture brings people together, creates new opportunities, and enriches everyday life. I want to ensure that every resident has access to art, culture, and events—regardless of income level, background, or neighborhood.

In city politics, it is crucial not only to address the symptoms of social exclusion but also to create sustainable and inclusive structures that support the well-being and sense of community for all Helsinkians in the long term. Marko Ruonala, 55 v., pääluottamusmies

Hei.

Tiina Rytky, 41 yrs., Yhteiskuntapoliittinen sos.-dem. yhdistys ry, Head of Communications

I want to continue my work in building a climate-neutral Helsinki. A significant part of this effort takes place in the city-owned energy company Helen, where I am involved in decision-making on a major investment program that will bring Helsinki even closer to its climate goals. I hold a Master’s degree in Social Sciences and am a mother of two middle school-aged children from Oulunkylä. I work as the Communications Manager for the Social Democratic Parliamentary Group.

Social democracy with a big heart!

Tiina Salo, 39 yrs., Koillis-Helsingin Sosialidemokraatit ry, Communications Specialist

My decision-making is based on both high-quality research and human compassion. I advocate for families with children, local services, and small and micro-entrepreneurs.

I work in communications at the Academy of Finland and co-own a small construction company with my spouse, where I handle administration. I am also a mother of one- and four-year-old children.

The vitality and uniqueness of Helsinki’s neighborhoods thrive through diverse and accessible urban culture. My work experience includes the banking sector and the third sector, specifically handling guarantees at the Guarantee Foundation.

Milla Tanskanen, 41 yrs., Tölö Unga Socialister ry, Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)

Helsinki is my beloved hometown. Originally from Kallio, I now live in Jätkäsaari with my family. Experiencing my own children’s early childhood education journey opened my eyes to the municipal sector’s budget shortfalls.

I want to understand how Helsinki generates millions in annual revenue while essential services struggle. Where does the city’s money go?

I love problem-solving, and in my work, I constantly think about how things could be done more efficiently. I find myself asking the same questions when reading Helsingin Sanomat and local news—that’s why I’m running in the elections.

Vilma Vähämaa, 31v.,vaikuttamistyön asiantuntija, VTK

Koko elämänsä Helsingissä asunut vaikuttamistyön asiantuntija ja politiikan ja viestinnän tutkimuksen kandi. Kiinnostukseni vaikuttamiseen alkoi nuorisokodissa asuessani; näin lastensuojelussa paljon hyvää, jota halusin vahvistaa, sekä paljon huonoa, jota halusin kehittää. Tämän johdosta päädyin perustamaan lastensuojelun palvelujen kehittämistä asiakasnäkökulmasta tekevää Osallisuuden aika ry:tä, joka on tehnyt pioneerityötä nuorten äänen tuomisessa lastensuojelun päätöksentekoon.
